Everybody's Talkin'

I got the idea to do this one during the World Series. This song was played during the coaching visits to the mound at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. I thought it was a funny choice, and then I got to thinking how much I liked the song. Anyway, here is Everybody's Talkin' by Harry Nilsson/Fred Neil, made famous by its prominent feature in the '70s classic film Midnight Cowboy.

Hungry Heart

I heard Hungry Heart on the radio recently on a long drive from Las Vegas to Steamboat Springs with my dad. It's been stuck in my head since then, and so I had to try it for the cover project. It was a little challenging, hence the almost two week break since the last one. Here's cover #5, Bruce Springsteen's Hungry Heart.

As I Went Out One Morning

Week # 3 of the cover project: As I Went Out One Morning by Bob Dylan. Another very famous man, but not one of his best known songs. I've always been drawn to it though.

As I Went Out One Morning

There aren't any good videos of this song that I could find, but here's one anyway. It serves the purpose of hearing the original recording from the John Wesley Harding album.

Love In Mind

Week # 3 of the cover project: Love In Mind by Neil Young. Pretty famous dude, not so famous song. Though this may sound like a standard Neil Young acoustic slow jam, the original is actually played on the piano. Since I have been doing all piano so far, I thought I'd take a break and use the guitar. I hope you like it.

Love In Mind

If you don't know the original, here is a lovely live video from 1971.

Bastards of Young

Week # 2 of the cover project: Bastards of Young by The Replacements. This song is not nearly as famous as last week's, but hopefully a lot of you know it. If not, I hope you'll enjoy it anyway, and check out the original. It's a great tune and a classic MTV video.

She Loves You

My brother had the idea that I should record and post one cover song every week. I liked the idea, and so I'm doing it. Here is the first song of the project. It's "She Loves You" by The Beatles, and I hope you like it.

The fabulous Gianmarco Cilli band will be performing at Johnny Brenda's on June 25. It is our first show in a very long time, so we hope to see you there. We are opening for Adam Arcuragi, who has also not played in Philadelphia in a very long time. It should be a great show.

The Next Big Thing

There's been no news for a little while. No shows, no nothing. I'm gathering steam to start a new record. I have all the songs ready, it's just a matter of putting them to tape (or hard drive). I hope for it to be finished by the end of this year. Stay tuned...

Happy New Year

I wanted to say Happy Holidays to everyone and to look back at what a great year 2008 has been.

1) Barack Obama was elected President of the United States!
2) The Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series! And I got to go to Game 4--amazing.
3) I finished Homely Joys after a really long time. It will hopefully be available on iTunes soon.
4) National Eye released a wonderful new album, The Farthest Shore. You can hear the whole thing on this beautiful album player.
5) My band played some great shows that were a lot of fun. Thanks to Charlie, Todd, DWD, Hearts, Josh, and Dan for playing with me and for being such great dudes.

New Year's Resolution for 2009: start and finish recording my second album!

Cheers,
Gianmarco
